Q: How to download your relatives file from 23andMe?
A:
The "relatives" file has vital information about your DNA matches at 23andMe and is needed in the "Your DNA family" app to help you identify how these DNA matches are related to you and who the common ancestor is.
To download this file, please follow these simple steps:
1) Log into 23andMe under https://www.23andMe.com
2) In the top menu bar, locate "Family & Friends" and when you hover with your mouse over it, you'll see "View all DNA Relatives" as the second menu option. Click on it:
3) When the page has loaded (it will take a couple of seconds) you will see a list of your top 25 relatives for the account you have selected. Scroll down to the bottom of this page where you will find a blue button with the text "Download DNA Relatives Data" on it. Click that button:
4) This will trigger either immediately a file that you can download or 23andMe has to prepare that file (they say it takes up to 12h but it's usually done in 15-30 seconds).
You will also get a notification via email that your file is ready for download. Save the file either directly from this page or by following the link in the email. Please note that you get a zipped file (with the ending .zip) which you need to unzip (usually by double clicking it). The unzipped file should have the name of the DNA kit owner and the ending .csv - this is the file you need to upload in the "Your DNA family" app.
How can you upload your relatives file into the "Your DNA family" app?
a) If you still have a card with the headline "23andMe step 1 - Relatives" then please click on it
b) As an alternative, for users with an active subscription, they can click on their profile picture/initials in the top right corner and then on the menu item "23andMe - Relatives update (manual)":
